Android Apps on PlayBook - another dodgy RIM job
So, PlayBook OS 2.0 dropped this week taking RIMs tablet owner base forward yet also back in time to where it should have been a year ago, on release. I’m not going to bleat about that here though, on first impression, the new OS is really well executed and brings with it a host of great, albeit very late, features. The, amazingly-omitted-first-time-round, native mail is here and works very well and the card approach to switching between running apps is great, although probably borrowed from web OS.
As far as I’m concerned, real success for tablet devices relies heavily on the strength of its app store/market/world/<insert appropriate for your device>. This is the thrust of the post as RIM has moved to strengthen theirs, which was pretty piss-poor to be honest, with the introduction of support for Android apps via the android app player. Access to thousands of Android apps on your PlayBook, sounds great, right?…
